Obituary of Allan Baker
Allan R. "Bake" Baker, age 46, of Piper Rd., Herkimer, was tragically taken on Tuesday , June 21, 2005 on Rt. 5, Herkimer from injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident. Bake was returning to his shop after visiting his grandfather who also passed away. Bake was born on December 4, 1958 in New Hartford, a son of Richard L. Baker, Jr., and Patricia (Lowther) Baker of Herkimer. He was educated in Herkimer schools and graduated with the "Class of 1977". He furthered his education and pursued his love of motorcycles by attending the American Motor Cycle Institute (AMI) in Daytona Beach, Florida. On July 24, 1982, he was joined in marriage with the former Diane Roberts in Frankfort. Throughout their almost 23-year union, a hallmark of their relationship has been their loving and devoted compatibility; they have truly enjoyed each other's company as well as their shared commitment to their family and friends. A proud United States Veteran, Bake served with the United States Navy. He receive an honorable discharge on April 27, 1984. For eighteen years, Bake was the owner and operator of Bake's Motorcycle Parts, serving the motorcycle needs of the residents in the Mohawk Valley. He always stood by his motto of "where the owner repairs your bike." By personality and ability, he was well-suited to his longtime profession. Always well-respected and trustworthy in both his professional life and in his personal life, he was truly a man of integrity and respect. A dedicated family man, Bake was the patriarch of his family, a strong and unfailing support who could always be counted on for help or guidance in his personal life. Bake had a love for people that manifested itself in countless thoughtful and generous ways. He readily won the respect and affection of all who knew him. His loved ones will always cherish the remembrance, the example and the inspiration of his wonderful life. Even though motorcycle riding was his main hobby, he also enjoyed hunting, especially with his brother Bob, and also enjoyed being with his animals. He was a member of the East Herkimer Fish and Game Club. Survivors include his beloved wife: Diane; daddy's little girl and "punkadoodle", Tiffanie of Herkimer, his beloved parents: Richard and Patricia Baker of Herkimer, paternal grandmother: Katherine M. Baker of Herkimer; maternal grandmother: Marjorie Lowther of East Herkimer; two close brothers: Robert J. Baker and wife "Jo Jo" of Ilion and Brandon M. Baker and wife Jo of Charleston Air Force Base, South Carolina; a beloved sister: Bonnie Jean Keller and husband Jeffrey of E. Herkimer; his father in law, Richard A. Roberts, Sr., of Niceville, FL., a brother and sister in law: Richard A. Roberts, Jr. and wife Gail of Staford, VA. and Wreathe Anne Roberts of Marcy; many aunts, uncles, beloved nieces,beloved nephews and cousins. Also surviving are numerous friends that were all so very special to Bake. He was predeceased by his grandfather on Wednesday morning. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main St., between Ilion and Frankfort, (894-8000) on Friday, June 24, 2005 from 4- 8p.m. Motorcycle riders are asked to pay a final tribute to Bake by lining up bikes in front of the funeral home beginning at 4 p.m on Friday. A graveside service in memory of Bake and also his grandfather, Richard L. Baker, will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at Mt. View Memorial Gardens, Town of Little Falls, commencing at 11am with the Rev. Wrightson Tongue, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer-Little Falls, officiating.
