Obituary of Stuart Balderston

Mr. Stuart J. "Stu" Balderston, age 83, of Arthur St. Little Falls, passed away on Wednesday evening, June 8, 2005 at the home of his son, Bruce Balderston, in Albany. He was born on May 27, 1922 in Little Falls, a son of the late Stuart and Mary Ann (Donnelly) Balderston and received his education at St. Mary's Academy. On September 4, 1948, he married Therese R. Carrig in St. Mary's Church, Little Falls with whom he shared a union of 52 years, one that was blessed with true love and commitment. A veteran of World War II, he proudly served our country with the U.S. Army during D-Day (June 6th, 1944) on Omaha Beach, Normandy. His last professional employment was with the Little Falls Elk's Lodge #42 where he was a steward. An excellent cook, he loved nothing more than preparing for social gatherings where he fed his friends with his special dishes and favorite recipes. He was a faithful communicant of Holy Family Parish, Little Falls. Stu belonged to the Little Falls Elk?s Lodge #42, Little Falls VFW Post #4612, Little Falls American Legion Post #31 and the Decarlo Staffo Post #8 also of Little Falls. He was currently a member of the Little Falls Police and Fire Commission. Stu considered his family to be an important part of his life. Bestowing upon them his love and steadfast loyalty, he always kept his children and grandchildren close to his heart. A business minded individual he was a wonderful provider to his family. Because of his outgoing personality and kind nature he gained the respect of many in the community of Little Falls. Anyone who knew Stu will always cherish the countless memories they shared with him including the many that were created at the Little Falls Elk's Lodge. Survivors include his three children: Bruce Balderston and wife Kathie of Albany, Kris Balderston and wife Patricia of Alexandria, VA, and Ann Glynn and husband Paul of Oyster Bay, NY; six cherished grandchildren: Allison, Aaron Baldertson, Carrig and Michaela Balderston, Briana and Ronan Glynn; beloved inlaws: Morgan Carrig, David Carrig, Teddy and Charles Riley, Tom and Theresa Carrig, Louise Schuyler and Agnes Ashley. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. He was predeceased by one brother: Charles Balderston and by one sister: Rita Obernesser. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls on Friday (today) June 10, 2005 from 5-8 p.m. Stu's funeral will commence at 8:15 on Sat. morning, June 11, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered by Sister Marilyn Hayes, CSJ and at 9 am from Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Sts., with the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor, officiating. Funeral procession will follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer where he will be laid to rest with his wife, Therese and full military honors will be accorded. Memorial offerings may be sent to the Stuart and Therese Baldertson Memorial Scholarship Fund; c/o Clete McLaughlin, Benton Hall Academy, 15 Petrie St., Little Falls, NY 13365. Donations may also be made at the funeral home.
