Obituary of Charles Chapman

Charles E. Chapman, 75 a long time St. Johnsville resident, passed away on Thursday June 9, 2005 at Little Falls Hospital. He was born May 15, 1930 in the Town of Palatine, the son of the late Harry D. & Bessie (Hall) Chapman. Charlie was educated in Fort Plain & Canajoharie schools. His marriage to Beatrice A. Puznowski took place on January 26, 1955 at St. Patrick's Church in St. Johnsville. The couple shared a blessed union of 39 years until the passing of Mrs. Chapman on November 10, 1994. Mr. Chapman was a Korean Army veteran, enlisting on December 27, 1950 and was honorably discharged November 27, 1953 with the rank of Sergeant. While serving his country Charlie received the following Medals; Occupation Medal Germany & National Defense Service Medal. Charlie was last employed at a union carpenter and foreman for C. Scialdo & Sons Construction in Herkimer. He was also Town of St. Johnsville Code Enforcer from June 1, 1998 to June 30, 2002. Mr. Chapman was of the Methodist Faith and was a member of the St. Johnsville American Legion, Post # 168 and the Carpenter s Union Local. With family as his foremost priority, Charlie proved himself as a loving and caring father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and also enjoyed the company of his canine companion Heidi. Survivors include his son, Kim Chapman and wife Donna of St. Johnsville, his beloved sister, Cleora Mann of Fort Plain, 2 brothers; Leonard Chapman and wife Gloria of California & Douglas Chapman and wife Betty of Fort Plain, 2 very special granddaughters, Stephanie & Tiffanie Chapman, 2 very special friends, Donald & Alberta Oakley of Amsterdam and several nieces, nephews & cousins. He was pre-deceased by 4 brothers; Howard & Frank Mann & Harvey & Everett Chapman. In keeping with Charlie's wishes a Memorial service will be held on Wednesday June 15, 2005 at 11:00 am from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY with Reverend Kenneth Dingman, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fort Plain officiating. Interment will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of the services.
