Obituary of Peter Coleman

Mr. Peter J. Coleman, age 56, of Woodside Ave., a longtime Little Falls businessman, passed away on Tuesday morning, February 15, 2005. He was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on October 3, 1948, son of the late Edward J. and Mary Kay (Curtin) Coleman. He graduated from Kings College in Wilkes Barre, PA. with a bachelor's degree in Political Science. On August 8, 1970, Peter and Nancy Tschudin were married in Holy Trinity Church, Poughkeepsie. The Coleman family came to Little Falls in 1974 when Peter accepted a position with the Herkimer County Trust Company. He held the position of trust officer and eventually vice president, serving the company for 25 years. A well-known and respected business man, he owned and operated Mohawk Valley Investments on North Ann Street in Little Falls. A dedicated member of the community, he made a strong impact on the city of Little Falls. He was a member of the Community Chest, Rotary Club, Civic Club, Mohawk Valley Estate Planning Council, First Night Committee, Northeast Estate Planning Council, Housing Authority, past director of the Urban Renewal Agency, Herkimer County Development Committee, and was a committee person for the Little Falls Republican Party. He was most proud of his membership with the Little Falls Elk's Lodge #42 where he was past exalted ruler and elk of the year. It was at the yearly children's ARC Christmas party held at the Elk's Club where Peter truly shined and enjoyed putting a smile on the faces of the children. In his leisure time he enjoyed relaxing at his camp and was proud of his Irish heritage. Survivors include his beloved wife Nancy, of Little Falls, two children, Peter J. Coleman Jr. of Marrietta, Ga. and Kathryn Coleman of Minneapolis, Mn., three siblings, Suzanne and James Leahigh, III of Silver Springs, MD., Edward J. Coleman of Poughkeepsie and Sharon and James Helion of Poughkeepsie, a brother in law, Emil Tschudin and wife Peggy of Denver, NC, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his beloved canine companion, Mark. The Coleman family invites relatives and friends to pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls on Thursday, February 17, 2005 from 5-8 p.m. Peter's funeral will commence at 9:15 am on Friday morning, Feb. 18, from the chapel of the funeral home where a prayer service will take place. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Friday in Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Streets, Little Falls. The Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor, will officiate. Procession will follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer, where he will be laid to rest. Peter's family kindly asks that in lieu of floral offerings, friends and relatives consider contributions to the benefit that is going to be held on April 2nd, 2005 for Kaitlin Feeney who recently underwent a heart transplant. Donations may be made at the Enea Family Funeral Home during calling hours and in the days to follow.
