Obituary of Amelia Collis

East Herkimer-Mrs. Amelia A. (Marocco) Collis, 84, of Zoller Ave., East Herkimer, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Monday morning, November 28, 2005, at Folts Homes in Herkimer. She was born on August 23, 1921 in Little Falls, NY, a daughter of the late Dominick and Angelina (Allesandrini) Marocco. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School and attended electronics school in Chicago, IL. On February 20, 1949, Amelia was united in marriage to John B. Collis at St. Joseph's Church in Little Falls. They shared 56 wonderful years together. Their love and devotion for each other was always present in their marriage and served as the roots of their family. A dedicated husband, Mr. Collis was an unfailing source of support to his wife never missing a day to go visit her in the nursing home. Mrs. Collis was employed at one time with General Electric in Schenectady and Syracuse, the former Felt Shoe Company and the Little Falls Dress Factory. She could be remembered by the residents of Herkimer for her involvement in Collis Hardware, Herkimer. She and her husband owned and operated the store for many years. Because of their hard work and dedication the business has always remained Collis owned and continues to be today. She was a member of St. Francis deSales Church in Herkimer. Amelia was active in the community and involved in many clubs and organizations including the Herkimer Lady Elk's Club where she was past president, the Zonta Club of Herkimer, Mohawk American Legion Auxillary, East Herkimer Home Bureau, East Herkimer Senior Citizens and the Ronnie Smith Fan Club. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing. She gave freely of her talents donating lap robes to the residents of local nursing homes and also donated blankets to the Linus Baby Program. She took great pride in decorating her home for each holiday and always presented a festive display for her family and friends to see. Mrs. Collis enjoyed traveling and taking bus trips with her husband. Lastly and most importantly, she loved spending time with her family. She held her family close to her heart, showed great appreciation for each and every one of them, and will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her beloved husband, John, at home; four loving children, Karen A. Noble of Herkimer, Kenneth J. Collis and his wife Diane of East Herkimer, Kathleen A. Marollo and her husband Peter of East Herkimer, and Kristie A. Collis of East Herkimer; three sisters, Lydia Krutz of Little Falls, Clara Kerzic and her husband John of Little Falls, Antoinette Schaffer and her husband John of Herkimer; a sister-in-law, Doris Marocco, and seven cherished grandchildren, Stefanie C. Noble and her husband Joe Plessas, Matthew K. Collis and his wife Kelly, Rebecca L. Noble, John P. Marollo, Paul A. Marollo, Sarah D. Collis, and David A. Humphrey; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many close family friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Marocco, and a brother-in-law, Edward Krutz. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St. on Wednesday, November 30, 2005 from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will commence on Thursday, December 1, 2005, at 10:15 a.m. from the chapel of the funeral home and at 11 a.m. at St. Francis deSales Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor. She will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. Mrs. Collis' family would like to thank the entire Folts Homes Staff, especially the second floor, for the kind and compassionate care that was shown towards them during her stay. Family and friends may consider memorial contributions to the Folts Home in Herkimer. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
