Obituary of Karen Delaney

Karen Delaney, age 65, of Little Falls, beloved mother, grandmother and friend began eternal life on Monday morning, January 3, 2005 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, in the presence of her loving family. She was born on May 21, 1939 in Dolgeville, a daughter of the late Howard E. and Viola (Perry) Nichols and received her education in Stratford schools. She attended the Utica School of Beauty Culture and along with her sisters operated a beauty shop on Main Street in Dolgeville at one time. Her last professional employment was with Van Allen's Nursing Home, Little Falls as a beautician and she previously worked in the same capacity for Valley Health Services, Herkimer. She was of the Universalist faith. Karen's innate personal characteristics, such as her generous spirit and her unconditional love provided a secure foundation for her relationships and for her family life. An excellent cook, she loved nothing more than preparing for family gatherings where she fed her loved ones with special dishes and favorite recipes. Beyond her family circle, Karen demonstrated a deep and sincere passion for the outdoors. She truly enjoyed being surrounded by the beautiful creations of God. Some of her most pleasurable moments were spent at Oxbow, Pine and Spruce Lake. Karen's home was proudly decorated with Native American culture. She is survived by her three loving children, Brian Delaney and wife Peg of Little Falls, Beth Regan and husband Denny of Little Falls, and Barb Atkinson and husband Dave of Ocala, FL, two close sisters, Beverly Lyon of Dolgeville, Phyllis Miller also of Dolgeville, two sisters in law, Betty Caley and Millie Harper, a brother in law, Bob Delaney, nine cherished grandchildren, Joshua, Brandon and Meghan Delaney, Nicholas and Kali Regan, Kim, Heather, Wendy Vye and David Atkinson. She also leaves her devoted friend, Tom Perkins of Salisbury Center, many very special, nieces, nephews, cousins and so many other cherished close friends who are too numerous to mention, (you know who you are). Karen was predeceased by a special friend, Carol Congdon, her beloved cousin, Mark Perry and by her former husband who always remained a close friend, Edward Delaney. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a celebration of Karen's life that will commence at 11 am on Thursday, January 6, 2005 from the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, under the direction of her personal friend, Harry Enea. The Rev. James Thomas, will offer prayer. Kindly consider memorial offerings to the Universalist Church, Salisbury. For your convenience, donations may be made at the funeral home and envelopes will be available as well. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
