Obituary of Mary DeLuca

Mary B. DeLuca, age 81, a long time resident of Little Falls, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2005 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. She was born on May 4, 1924 in Utica, a daughter of the late Joseph and Pasqua Scqubba Ancona. Mary was educated in Utica Schools and graduated from Herkimer County Community College. Her marriage to John P. DeLuca took place on July 5, 1947 at St. John's Church in Utica. Mr. DeLuca died in 1978. Mary was well known for catering private parties and functions and also cooked at many restaurants throughout the valley. Mrs. DeLuca was also employed at the former Sperry-Rand Company in Ilion at one time. Along with her husband, she was a former owner of the Little Falls Gorge View Lanes. Mrs. DeLuca was an election inspector for the city of Little Falls and the Little Falls City School District. She was a member of the Holy Family Parish and also its Rosary Society. Mary was also a member of the St. Cosmo Domino of Utica, Catholic Society and the Little Falls Democratic Committee. She was also renowned for her fund raising efforts for many local charitable causes. Survivors include her children Anthony J. DeLuca and wife Mary of Little Falls, Patricia Harrod of Gloversville, and Gale DeLuca and companion, Patrick Ingerham of Little Falls; a brother, Peter Ancona of Utica; two sisters, Angie DeNigro of Utica and Louisa Marraffa and her husband Angelo of Utica; a brother-in-law, Cosmo LaPolla of Utica; four grandchildren, Jason Harrod, Jolene Harrod and fiancee John Morotti, Sarah DeLuca and Rachel DeLuca; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Antoinette LaPolla. Mary's funeral will commence at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday morning, July 27, 2005 from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, NY where prayer will be offered by Sister Marilyn Hayes, CSJ and at 11 a.m. at the Holy Family Parish where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 26, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of floral arrangements, please consider the Little Falls Food Pantry or the Greater Little Falls Community Chest. The family extends its sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Little Falls Hospital, Mohawk Valley Nursing Home and St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
