Obituary of Helen Dodge

Mrs. Helen Eckerson Dodge, age 94, of 90 North Helmer Avenue, Dolgeville, a resident of the Van Allen Nursing Home since March, died there on Monday Morning August 15, 2005. Mrs. Dodge was born on July 17, 1911 in Cobleskill, New York the daughter of the late Grover and Lucinda (Hadsell) Eckerson. She was educated in Cobleskill schools and was a graduate of the Cobleskill State School class of 1931. She recently celebrated her 74 class reunion from there. Her marriage to Wilson W. Dodge took place on March 27, 1934 and the couple relocated to the Village of Dolgeville. They operated a farm on Spencer Street until 1957 when they moved to the Helmer Avenue home. Mr. Dodge predeceased her on April 21, 1993. Mrs. Dodge had been employed by the Little Falls Hospital retiring from there in 1977. She was a faithful member of the Dolgeville United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women?s Club, and a 62 year member of the Auskerada ? Maquaes ?Rock City Chapter # 204 Order of Eastern Star. She also served as a ritualistic officer for them for many years. Surviving her are her Sons and their wives Wilson G. and Muriel Dodge of Dolgeville, Robert and Judy Dodge of Dolgeville and William and Linda Dodge of Clifton Springs, a Daughter and her husband Ruth and Honorable Gerald Thompson of Dolgeville, her Sisters Elizabeth Baker of Cobleskill, and Martha Dowd of Virginia Beach, VA, a Brother Raymond Eckerson of Los Almos, New Mexico, Her Grandchildren David Van Volkenburg and his wife Kathy of Ilion, Stephanie Nurse and her husband Michael of Clifton Springs, Christina Dodge of Clifton Springs, and Karen Dodge and her friend Lowell Youker, her Great Grandson Leigh Van Volkenburg of Ilion, Great Granddaughters Madisyn Beth Nurse and Kayla Rae Nurse both of Clifton Springs, a Sister in law Beatrice Cairo and her husband Ernest of Gloversville, and very dear friend Grace Darling of Dolgeville, several Nieces & Nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Donald Eckerson and her sister Hazel Baker. Funeral services will be held Thursday August 18, 2005 at 11 AM at the Dolgeville United Methodist Church on Helmer Avenue. The Rev. Dr. Jeff Losey, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dolgeville Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7 PM at the Roberts & Enea Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville. Members of the Order of Easter Star will hold RITUALISTIC SERVICES at 6:45 PM on Wednesday evening. Memorials may be made to the Dolgeville United Methodist Church, the Little Falls Hospital or to the Association of the Blind in her memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
