Obituary of Calvin Ellis
Mr. Calvin L. Ellis 75 of 7544 State Rt. 29 Town of Oppenheim, died unexpectedly Sunday evening February 6, 2005 at Little Falls Hospital after suffering an attack at home. Cal was born in Salisbury, on January 19, 1930 the son of the late Gordon and Ethel (Busch) Ellis Sr. and was educated in Dolgeville Schools. A veteran of the United States Army he served with Company D 716th Military Police Battalion. He was honorably discharged with the rank of PFC on June 21, 1948. His marriage to Arlene Keyser took place on December 3, 1949 in the Dolgeville Methodist parsonage. Cal was employed as a welder for over 24 years with the Lane Construction Company of Fultonville, retiring from there in 1992. He was a founding and Charter member of the Hilltop Fire Department, having served in all of its' capacities as Chief, Past President, Treasure and secretary and was currently acting as the departments Chaplain. He was currently serving as councilmen for the Town of Oppenheim. His affiliations also include the Local 106 Engineers, the Dolgeville Golf League and he was one of the founders of the Sports Booster Club of the Oppenheim - Ephratah School. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and all sport activities. Surviving is his wife Arlene of 55 years, his sons and their wives Larry and Kim Ellis and Brian and Barbara Ellis both of Dolgeville, his Daughter and her husband Debbie and Jim McKinney of Dolgeville, A Brother and his wife Gordon and Bertha Ellis Jr. his Grandchildren, Sarah, Renee', Nicole, Cody and Kolten, his Mother in Law Lottie Keyser, a Sister in Law Esther Ellis and a Brother in Law and his wife George and Marian Keyser, N & N. Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 9, 2005 at 11 AM at the Roberts & Enea Family Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville. The Rev. James E. Thomas will officiate. Spring burial will be in the Dolgeville Cemetery. Calling hours are today from 4-7 PM. Members of the Hilltop Fire department are asked to meet at 6:30PM at the funeral home to conduct a prayer service for Cal. The family request memorials be made to the Hilltop Fire Department or to the Dolgeville Basketball Program in his memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
