Obituary of Grace Enea

Mrs. Grace (Maneen) Enea, age 84, of Ilion, a longtime Frankfort resident passed away on Monday morning, January 31, 2005 in St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford, following a brief illness. She was born on June 16, 1920 a daughter of the late Anthony and Mayme Maneen and was educated in Frankfort schools. She was last employed with the former Sperry-Rand of Ilion. On June 10, 1939, she was joined in marriage with Ascanio "Bing" Enea; their union was blessed with their two children and sixty five memorable years. The couple especially enjoyed their retirement years spent at their camp on Evergreen Lake. Grace was a woman who felt that motherhood was her greatest honor and her deepest joy in life,; she carried on her dedication into succeeding generations through her relationships with her grandchildren and her great-grandson. She was ever mindful of the special occasions in the lives of all her loved ones and always remained supportive of family and friends through thick and thin. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing and cooking. She was a communicant of Annunciation Church, Ilion and held membership with the Lady Moose Club of Ilion. Survivors include her husband Bing; two beloved children, Jules Enea and wife Ginny of Ilion and Angie Strail and husband Micky also of Ilion; three cherished grandchildren: Erik Strail, Lisa and Rob Whyte and Stephanie and Lois Vulcano; her adored great grandson: Evan Vulcano; many special nieces and nephews including Fran Retzloff and husband Larry who was loved like a daughter. Also surviving are in laws: Harry J. Enea, Sr. and wife Lucy of Herkimer and Lovisa Enea of Frankfort and many cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters: Mary Evalo and husband Mike, Peter Mannino and wife Rose, Lena LaForte and husband Tom, Carl Mannino and wife Theresa, Sam Maneen and wife Jennie, Frances Polley Fresco and Theresa Borruso and husband Joseph; a brother in law, Tommy Enea and also by her nephews, Anthony Maneen, Sam Evalo, Tony Evalo and Rocky Maneen. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, (Main Street between Ilion and Frankfort) on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 from 5-8 p.m. Grace's funeral will commence at 9:15am on Thursday morning, Feb. 3 from the chapel of the funeral home where a prayer service will be held. Procession will follow to Annunciation Church, West St., Ilion where her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am. The Rev. Anthony Barratt will officiate. Interment will be held next spring in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. Kindly consider memorial offerings to the Herkimer County Humane Society.
