Obituary of James Farrell

James J. Farrell, 88, formerly of New York City, passed away on Monday evening, February 14, 2005 in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion. He was born on November 24, 1916 in New York City a son of the late Thomas and Nora (Rafftery) Farrell and was educated in New York City Schools. He furthered his education attending Pratt Institute graduating with an associates degree. His marriage to Mary Patricia Costigan took place in New York City on June 16, 1945. She passed away in 2001. Jim's last professional employment was with Con-Edison retiring after 40 years of dedicated service and he was of the Catholic Faith. His happiest moments were spent with family and friends in his cabin in the Pennsylvania woods. Survivors include two sons, William K. Farrell and wife Mary Alice of Ilion and James R. Farrell and wife Ann of Pearl River, NY, a brother Thomas Farrell of Yonkers, four grandchildren: Michael and wife Paige, David, Elizabeth, Joseph; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother and two sisters. The family invites relatives and friends to visitation at the Drago Funeral Home, 43-10 30th Ave., Astoria, NY, on Thursday, February 17, 2005 from 2-5 and 7-9p.m. Jim's funeral will commence at 10:15 am on Friday morning, Feb. 18, from the Drago Funeral Home and 11 am from St. Joseph's Catholic Church, which is located across the street from the funeral parlor. He will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery, New York City. Kindly consider contributions in his memory to Herkimer Area Resource Center (HARC) or to the Herkimer County Humane Society.
