Obituary of Joseph Fiorentino

Mr. Joseph A. Fiorentino, age 80, a longtime Little Falls resident and a Herkimer native, passed away on Monday morning, April 18, 2005 in Little Falls Hospital following an extended illness. He was born on August 19, 1924 in Herkimer a son of the late Salvatore and Corsignano (Perrino) Fiorentino and received his education in Herkimer schools. On May 12, 1956, he was joined in marriage with the former Mildred E. Krchniak at St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer. Her passing occurred on Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997. Joe's last professional employment was with the former Library Bureau in Herkimer. A proud United States veteran, he served during World War II with the United States Army. He enlisted on March 24, 1943 and was honorably discharged on March 10, 1946, close to three years of heroic service to his country. He was the recipient of the American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. A devout Catholic, he was a communicant of Holy Family Parish, Little Falls. He held memberships with the Tony R. George Post in Herkimer and the Herkimer Michael S. Pliseck V.F.W. Post #4915. In his spare time he enjoyed cooking and gardening. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones. Survivors include a brother: Vincent Fiorentino and wife Frances of Herkimer; a sister: Grace Licari and husband Leonard of Syr.; in laws: Joe DePalo of Herkimer and Mary Fiorentino of Utica; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother: Michael Fiorentino and by two sisters: Anne DePalo and Nellie Patti. Visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls will be held on Wed. morning, April 20, 2005 from 9:15 to 10:15. At the conclusion of visitation, prayer will be offered by Sister Marilyn Hayes, CSJ followed by a Mass of Christian Burial from Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Sts., Little Falls at 11 am. The Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor, will officiate. Procession will follow to Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Little Falls, where Joseph will be laid to rest. Full military honors will be accorded. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Family Parish Memorial Fund or the Little Falls Hospital; envelopes are available at the funeral home and donations may be made there as well.
