Obituary of Helen Fischer

Helen Malinowski Fischer, age 93, formerly of Rome St. in Mohawk, passed away peacefully at Valley Health Services on Thursday, December 8, 2005. She was born on July 5, 1912 in West Virginia, a daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Harowicz) Maluchnik. She spent most of her life in New Jersey and later moved to Mohawk in 1991. On April 4, 1940, Helen was married to John J. Malinowski, in New Jersey City, New Jersey. Mr. Malinowski passed away on December 6, 1969. On November 27, 1976, she married John Fisher at St. Joseph's Church in Herkimer. Mr. Fisher passed away on August 2, 1991 in Newark, New Jersey. Mrs. Fischer was last employed with Western Electric in Kearny, New Jersey. She retired from the company in 1967 after 27 years of service. She was a faithful member of Sts. Anthony and Joseph's Church in Herkimer. At one time, Mrs. Fischer was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and an active member of the Senior Citizen Groups in Newark, New Jersey. She is survived by her two beloved children, Lorraine Hartigan and her husband Bob of Mohawk, with whom Helen resided with for 15 years and Joseph Malinowski and his wife Denise of Jackson, New Jersey; a brother Raymond Maluchnik and his wife Heidi of Linden, New Jersey; four loving grandchildren, Joseph Fylak of North Carolina, Gregory Fylak and his wife Beth Anne of Newark, Delaware, Michelle Dempsey and her husband Martin of Freehold, New Jersey, and John Malinowski and his wife Nicole of North Carolina; five special great-grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth, and Nicholas Gregory Fylak, James Thomas Dempsey and Haley and Cole Malinowski; and many nieces and nephews in New Jersey and in the Mohawk Valley. She was predeceased by her brothers Norbert, Walter, Benjamin, Edward, Charles, and Alex Maluchnik and her sisters, Stella Scaler and Lottie Maluchnik. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation on Saturday, December 10, 2005 at the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will take place in New Jersey. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family would like to thank Valley Health Services, especially the nurses and staff of First East, Hospice Care, and Rev. Mark Cunnigham for the care and compassion that was shown to Helen during her stay. The family would also like to thank Roberta Wright for being a devoted and caring caregiver to Helen and her family. Local arrangements are with the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home.
