Obituary of George Goldsmith

George F. Goldsmith, Sr., 81, a former long time Herkimer and Richfield Springs resident and most recently of London Towers, Ilion, passed away on Sunday October 30, 2005 at the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion. He was born March 25, 1924 in Yorkville, NY the son of the late Henry & Ruth (Myers) Goldsmith and was a graduate of Herkimer High School. He was married to the former Glenice Talbot, who pre-ceded him in death in 1996. Mr. Goldsmith was a World War II Army veteran, enlisting on December 3, 1942 and was honorably discharged on January 15, 1946 with the rank of Corporal, serving in the Burma Campaign. George was last employed at Remington Arms. Prior to that he worked for 26 years at the former Univac in Utica and at one time he worked at the former Remington Rand. Mr. Goldsmith was a member of the Annunciation Church in Ilion. George was a singer for the Ilion Moose Lodge's Men's Chorus and was a 50 year member of the Richfield Springs Fireman's Exempt Association, captain of the emergency squad, past president of the Herkimer County Volunteer Firemen's Association, the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department and Scuba Rescue Squad and the Richfield Springs V.F.W. Survivors include a son George F. Goldsmith, Jr. and his wife Jeanne of Latham, NY, 2 daughters, Donna Trantham and her husband Doyle of Hendersonville, N.C., & Susan Mack and her husband Reverend Arthur Mack of Westland, Michigan, 2 brothers, Paul Goldsmith and his wife Gerry of Newport, & Charles Goldsmith and his wife Betty of Utica, 4 sisters, Patricia Buttimer and her husband Thomas of Savanna, Georgia, Ruth Stefanovich and her husband Stefan of Cambridge, N.Y., Sister Mary Jogues (Joan) of North Syracuse, & Gertrude Lenczewski and her husband Leo of Jacksonville, Florida, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews & cousins and in-laws, James Dougherty of Herkimer and Lois Goldsmith of Mohawk. He was pre-deceased by a sister Ann Dougherty and 2 brothers, Harold and his wife Nancy & Henry Goldsmith and his loving companion, Addie Jewell. uneral services will be held on Thursday November 3, 2005 at 9:15 am from the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main St., (between Ilion & Frankfort) and at 10:00 am from the Annunciation Church in Ilion, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Anthony M. Barratt, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Saratoga National Cemetery, Friday November 4, 2004 at 2:00 pm with full military honors. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home of Wednesday November 2, 2005 from 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers please make all memorial contributions to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
