Obituary of Edith DeCarr

Mrs. Edith P. (Cobb) Henrickson DeCarr, age 86, of 323 Barringer Rd., (corner of Barringer Rd. and Brook Sts.) Ilion, passed away on Friday afternoon, May 27, 2005 in Valley Health Services, Herkimer, following an extended illness. She was born on November 16, 1918 in Deerfield, a daughter of the late Ira and Lora (Walworth) Cobb and received her education in Cold Brook and Poland Schools. She was first married to Charles C. Henrickson in Ilion on June 17, 1938. He passed away on October 31, 1965. Edith later united in marriage with Robert DeCarr on November 25, 1978 in St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer with the Rev. Peter Nabozny, officiating. Her last professional employment was with BOCES where she worked in the cafeteria and she was at one time employed by UNIVAC in Ilion and Utica. A woman of deep faith, she was a devoted communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. She was past president and a very active member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary #579. Edith was a woman who committed all her energy, all her ability and all her being to her family and her home; she believed that taking care of her loved ones was her primary responsibility in life, one which she welcomed and accepted with love, pride and dedication. She was always willing to place the concerns and needs of others before her own and her door was always open for those seeking the guidance, care and compassion she generously gave. In her spare time she enjoyed embroidering. Survivors include her loving husband, Robert of Ilion; ten beloved children: Robert C. Henrickson and wife Leslie of Brantingham, NY, David Henrickson and wife Lorna of League City, TX, Nancy Henrickson of Masonville, CO, Robert "Jim" DeCarr and wife Margaret of East Herkimer, John DeCarr of Collegeville, PA, Joseph DeCarr of Ilion, Julie DeCarr of Herkimer, Mary Kay Davis and husband Jon of Dolgeville, Patricia DeCarr and friend Gary Spanfelner of Herkimer, and Ann Smith of Ilion; twenty eight grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and an inlaw: Luella Cobb. She was predeceased by two brothers and seven sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main St. between Ilion and Frankfort, (894-8000) on Monday, May 30, 2005 from 5-8 p.m. Her funeral will commence at 10am on Tuesday morning, May 31, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 11 am from St. Francis de Sales, Church, N. Bellinger St., Herkimer, where Edith's pastor, the Rev. Mark Cunningham will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Procession will follow to Mt. View Cemetery, Little Falls where she will be laid to rest. Kindly consider contributing to a charity of your choice in Mrs. DeCarr's memory.
