Obituary of Elizabeth Jones

Elizabeth H. "Betty" Jones, 81, of Galinsky Apartments, Herkimer, a lifelong resident of the Mohawk Valley, passed away Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. Betty was born in Ilion on Oct. 25, 1923, daughter of the late Harry and Vere (Lindsey) March. She attended Ilion schools. On March 6, 1970, she was united in marriage to Thomas N. "Partner" Jones in Mohawk. Tom passed away June 29, 1993. Betty began her career as a waitress at Mickey's Diner in Ilion, and also worked at the National Diner in Little Falls and the Empire Diner in Herkimer, retiring in 1980 after 42 years serving the public. Betty enjoyed many happy years with her husband, Tom, and her beloved family. She loved traveling to Germany to visit her loved ones. Survivors include one son and two daughters-in-law, William and Anita Ritton of Germany and Shirley Ritton of the state of Washington; her grandchildren, William Ritton, Ramona Nutti, Kristen Ritton and Aprile Lynch, Irene Willis, Mike, Andy and Sebina Schmidt, her great-grandchildren, Sarah Ann, Steven, David Jr., Sophie Elizabeth and Julia Mae, one great-great-granddaughter, Cloe Holly; one brother, Paul March and one sister, Arlene Corsillo; sister-in-law Rose March of Ilion, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Betty was predeceased by her son, James Ritton, her grandson, Leslie Ritton and her great-grandson, Mason Ritton, her sisters and brothers, Alice March, Helen Bruce, Verenetta Bouck, Esther Bower, Richard, Nelson, Howard and Grant March. Betty's funeral service will be held Monday, Aug. 29, commencing at noon at the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with the Rev. Mark Anderson, pastor of the Herkimer Reformed Church, officiating. Procession to Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion, for interment will follow. Family and friends are invited to visitation from 10 a.m.-noon at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. The Village of Herkimer Senior Citizens will gather 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home for prayer service. Memorial contributions may be considered in Betty's name to the American ALS Disease Foundation (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
