Obituary of Edmund LaPorte
Mr. Edmund A. LaPorte, age 86, formerly of Herkimer and currently residing with his daughter in Orlando, Florida passed away on Saturday evening, October 22, 2005 in Hunters Creek Nursing Home and Rehab Center, Orlando, Florida. He was born on October 25, 1918 in Tupper Lake, NY a son of the late Antoine and Victoria (LaLone) LaPorte.He enlisted into active service on Feb. 4, 1941 with the United States Army proudly serving for 31 months overseas during World War II. He received a 110-point honorable discharge at Fort Dix on September 15, 1945. Cpl. LaPorte, a member of the 51st signal Corps, served in Africa, Sicily and Italy. He received five battle stars for Anzio, Rome, Salerno, the Pro Valley and Sicily, and also wore the ETO ribbon, the Pearl Harbor ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. His marriage to the former Marise D. Wilcox took place on November 18, 1950 in Herkimer. She passed away on July 15, 2002. The couple enjoyed a blessed union of 51 years. Edmund was last employed by Remington Arms, Ilion as a machinist. He was a lumberjack at one time and was formerly employed by Standard Furniture. He was a member of the Herkimer V.F.W. Michael S. Pliseck Post #4915. The foremost priority in Edmund's life was the circle of his loved ones: he willingly and continually devoted his concern and best efforts to them. He also had a strong love for animals and enjoyed being outdoors. Survivors include three children: Debra Morgan and husband Dennis of Orlando, Fl., Brian LaPorte of Herkimer and Don Hadcock of Utica; a brother: Norman LaPorte and wife Artis; a sister: Celia Lane of Delanson, NY; five grandchildren: Nikki Linder and husband James, Kelly Molino and husband Michael, Donnie Hadcock, Jr., Angela Hadcock and Gail Marie LaPorte, seven great grandchildren: Corey, Alexis and Olivia Linder, Peter Molino, Maranda Bony, Nicholas Hadcock, Austin Hadcock and many in laws. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by many siblings. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer on Thursday, October 27, 2005 from 5-8 p.m. Edmund's funeral will commence at 11 am on Friday, October 28, 2005 from the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, officiating. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, where he will be laid to rest. Full military honors will be accorded by the United States Army. Kindly consider memorial offerings to the American Heart Association or to the Herkimer County Humane Society.
