Obituary of Bernice Ludden

Bernice F. Ludden, 82, formerly of 62 S. Third Ave., Ilion, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, at Folts Homes, Herkimer, where she had been a resident. She was born Sept. 12, 1923, in Albany, the daughter of Milo and Florence (Dapper) Schroll and graduated from Albany High School in 1941. Bernice was married to John "Jack" Ludden on Oct. 11, 1942, in Everglades City, Fla. He died in 1995. At one time she was an office worker at the International Brotherhood of Papermakers Union headquarters in Albany. Bernice was later employed as a time clerk and an accounts payable clerk at Sperry-Rand Univac in Ilion and Utica for over 20 years, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ilion and the Mohawk Valley General Hospital Guild. Bernice enjoyed being with her family. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, Jack. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John and Virginia Ludden of Ilion; her daughter, Christine Fort of Ballston Spa; two grandsons, James Ludden of Ilion and Cindy of Utica, Robert Ludden and his fianc?e Nancy Armor of Toledo, Ohio; one granddaughter, Samantha Lucia and her husband Scott of Ballston Spa; two great-grandchildren, Antonia and Kimberly Ludden; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, George and Janice Schroll of Rensselaer, Kenneth and Marilyn Schroll and Joan Schroll, all of Albany; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend, Margaret "Peg" Perrone of Ilion. She was predeceased by her husband, her brother, Alfred Schroll and her son-in-law, Robert Fort. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with the Rev. Paul Smith, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Ilion, officiating. Interment will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. Calling hours are Saturday, Jan. 7, from 1-4 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Herkimer County Humane Society or the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Springfield, Mass.
