Obituary of Isabelle Meeker

Isabelle M. "Izzy" Meeker, age 73, formerly of Utica and the valley, passed away in the presence of her loving family, Monday evening, March 14, 2005, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer. Isabelle was born July 8, 1931 in Rome, NY, daughter of the late Marcellus and Elvira (DiRoberto) Nasto. She was raised in Utica and attended Utica schools. At one time Isabelle was employed by GE as an assembler at the Bleecker St. plant. Primarily a dedicated mother, grandmother and homemaker, Isabelle's life was centered around her beloved family. She was of the Roman Catholic faith, and at one time was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. Always giving to others, at one time she was a volunteer at the Folts Homes and the Utica Headstart program. An avid cook, she was known for her creative dishes. Isabelle enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and loved music. She was known to be game to try anything. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her devoted and beloved children, Donald "Don" Meeker and his wife, Susan of Mohawk, Joseph "Joe" Meeker of Chadwicks, Theresa Murray and her husband, James of Ilion, and Anna Kohl and her husband, Joseph of Rome; her cherished grandchildren, Amanda, Sara, and Melissa Meeker, Jessica Battle and her husband, Billy, Jillian Meeker, Erica and Johnny Price, and Nyssa Kohl; one sister and brother-in-law, Mildred "Millie" and Harold Burr of Utica; and one brother and sister-in-law, Patsy and Marlene Perry also of Utica; several nieces, nephews, cousins; daughter-in-law, Jodi Winoski; and friends including her special friend, Sheila Ambrose of Black River. She was predeceased by her parents; brother, William Perry Jr.; sister, Mazie Peake; and her special friend and companion, Joseph "Joe" DiMasse. Family and friends are cordially invited to the visitation Thursday, March 17, 2005, from 4:30 to 7:30 at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion. Isabelle's funeral service will be held Friday, March 18, 2005, commencing at 11 a.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, Ilion with Father Mark Cunningham officiating. Procession to Calvary Cemetery, Utica, for interment will follow the funeral service. Isabelle's family wishes to thank the staffs at Valley Health Services, St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, St. Elizabeth's Medical Center especially John the nurse, and Country Manor where she was a resident for the compassion and care rendered during her stays. Those wishing to do so may consider memorial contributions in lieu of floral offerings to the American Cancer society in Isabelle's name. Donation envelopes are available at the funeral home.
