Obituary of Marion Merrill

Marion (Doxtader) Merrill, 107, formerly a longtime Ilion resident, passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, at Little Falls Hospital. Marion was born Aug. 4, 1898, in Herkimer, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Doxtader. She attended local schools. On Aug. 23, 1921, she was united in marriage to Harry C. Merrill in Herkimer. They shared a blessed union of almost 58 years until Mr. Merrill's passing on June 24, 1979. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Years ago Marion and her husband Harry loved to socialize with friends, especially at the Ilion VFW. One can only imagine the change, both good and bad that Marion has seen and experienced in her 107 years on this earth. Survivors include her cherished grandchildren, Colleen Koch and her husband Robert of Nelliston, Jim Merrill of Easton, Pa., Kimberly Elthorpe of Frankfort, Robert C. "Bob" Merrill Jr. and his wife Brenda of St. Johnsville, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Ruth and one son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. Sr. and Sue (Crogan) Merrill. Marion's funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 3, commencing at 11 a.m. at the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with the Rev. Wrightson S. Tongue, pastor of the Herkimer First United Methodist Church, officiating. Procession to Armory Hill Cemetery for interment will follow the funeral service.
