Obituary of Charles Moehringer

Mr. Charles (Chuck) F. Moehringer, 89, a long-time Herkimer resident, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at Mohawk Valley Nursing Home. He was born on January 17, 1916, in Broadalbin, NY, a son of the late Francis and Florence (Young) Moehringer. He was a graduate of the Vicentian High School in Albany, Class of 1934. Mr. Moehringer proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant, enlisting on January 20, 1943. While serving his country he received the following medals; American Service Medal, European- African - Middle Eastern Service Medal, & the Good Conduct Medal. He served in the following battles; Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe Northern France and Normandy. He was honorable discharged on November 3, 1945. On July 31, 1954, he was united in marriage with Julie Lidano, at St. Anthony's Church in Herkimer. They shared a blessed union of 51 years that was characterized by their unfailing love, dedication, and devotion to one another. Chuck was last employed by the former Sperry Univac in Utica, until his retirement. Mr. Moehringer was a member of St. Francis deSales Church and was a member of the Herkimer Knights of Columbus for over 60 years. He was also a member of the Michael S. Pliseck, V.F.W. Post 4915. For many years, Chuck was a very active coach for the Herkimer Little League, where he took pride in his teams and their accomplishments. Mr. Moehringer's passion was jazz and big band music. Most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by those who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife, Julie; his three beloved sons, Joseph Moehringer and his wife Linda of Baldwinsville, Michael Moehringer and his wife Jean of Baldwinsville, and Philip Moehringer and his wife Brenda of Gansevoort; one sister, Florence Early of Herkimer, three special grandchildren; Brad, Adam and Cory Moehringer, one sister-in-law, Clara Lidano of Herkimer, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visitation at the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St. on Friday, October 7, 2005 from 5-8 p.m. Mr. Moehringer's funeral will commence on Saturday morning, October 8, 2005 at 9:15 a.m. from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 10 a.m. at St. Francis deSales Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Mark Cunningham, Pastor. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, where he will be laid to rest. The Herkimer Knights of Columbus are asked to meet at 6 p.m. and the Michael S. Pliseck, V.F.W. Post 4915 are asked to meet at 7 p.m. for a service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis deSales Church or the Alzheimer's Association. Envelops will be available at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home for their kind and thoughtful care for Mr. Moehringer and his family during his time there.
