Catherine Mentis Moore, 87, a long-time St. Johnsville resident, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, NY. She was born August 11, 1918 in St. Johnsville, the daughter of the late Richard H. Mentis and Katie Leggins Mentis and was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School, class of 1936. Catherine resided in New York City for 51 years and moved back to St. Johnsville in 1989. Mrs. Moore was last employed as an Administrative Assistant for the Department of Social Services - City of New York. Catherine was a member of the Grace Congregational United Church of Christ in St. Johnsville. Catherine was a loving and caring mother and grandmother and a good friend to many. An active person, Catherine enjoyed traveling, fishing, and gardening. In her leisure she enjoyed playing bingo. Catherine loved languages and attended night school to become fluent in Spanish. Survivors include her daughter Rebecca West and husband Calvin of Manhattan, 2 sons, Cary Davis of St. Johnsville and Alden Moore of California, a brother, Lewis Mentis and wife Nancy of Las Vegas, Nevada, 2 grandchildren, Lauren and Evan Davis both of Little Falls, and many nieces, nephews and cousins, and a sister-in-law Marjorie Davis of Long Island. She was pre-deceased by a sister, Clara Mentis, and a brother Richard "Pappy" Mentis, Jr. Funeral services will be held on Friday August 26,2005 at 1:00 pm from the Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, with Reverend Wayne Cole Officiating. Burial will be in West St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, on Thursday August 25, 2005 from 6-8 pm.
