Obituary of Daniel Murphy

Mr. Daniel E. Murphy, 74, of 369 Second Street Extension, Ilion, NY, passed away peacefully at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, on August 7, 2005. He was born on July 24, 1931 in Herkimer, NY, a son of Earl and Laura (Looman) Murphy. Mr. Murphy was originally from Fairfield and moved to Herkimer with his family at a young age. He was educated in Herkimer schools. On May 1, 1954, he was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Bergin at Annunciation Church in Ilion. Mr. Murphy was of the Catholic faith and was a parishioner of St. Francis deSales Church in Herkimer. He was a lifelong resident of Herkimer, until moving to Ilion in 1999. As a veteran of the United States Air Force, Mr. Murphy served his country in the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1955. Mr. Murphy was a known for his professionalism as an optician in Herkimer, owning Dan Murphy Optical until his retirement. He also was a member of the Herkimer Elks Lodge since 1974. Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Patricia; three sons, Timothy Murphy and his wife Brenda of West Palm Beach, FL, James Murphy and his wife Linda of East Herkimer, and Daniel Murphy and his girlfriend, Christina of Herkimer; one daughter, Patricia Gugliotta and her husband Robert of Syracuse; five grandchildren Katherine, Kristina, Michael, Lisa, and Robert Murphy; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his twin brother, Donald Murphy. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 222 N. Washington St., Herkimer, Tuesday evening, August 9, 2005 from 4-7:30 p.m. Mr. Murphy's funeral will commence on Wednesday morning, August 10, 2005 at 9:15 a.m. from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 10 a.m. at St. Francis deSales Church with the Rev. Mark Cunningham, Pastor officiating. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, where he will be laid to rest. Members of the Herkimer Elks Lodge will gather at the funeral home at 7:15 p.m. to conclude visiting hours with their service. For directions to the funeral home, click the link above.
