Obituary of Kenneth Nielsen

Kenneth G. Nielsen, 62 of Dolgeville, passed away on Tuesday March 15, 2005 at Valley Health Services. He was born May 26, 1942 in Oneida, NY the son of the late Gordon B. & Melva (Brower) Nielsen. Ken was a graduate of DeRuyter Central School, class of 1960 and furthered his education at Morrisville College where he graduated in 1967 with an Associates Degree in Applied Science. He was first married to Kristine Momper on May 31, 1969 in Jamesville, NY. She passed away on October 25, 1983. He was later married to Linda Bailey on March 23, 1991 at the First Presbyterian Church in Dolgeville. Mr. Nielsen was an Army veteran, enlisting on May 12, 1961 and was honorably discharged on May 1, 1964 with the rank of SP4. Ken first worked from 1964-1969 for J.C. Penney's in Dewitt, NY. From 1969 - 1994 he was employed for Agway Co. He also worked part time for Lawn Medic and from 1995 - 2002 he worked at A.C.S. (Applied Computer Services) as an intern. Mr. Nielsen was of the catholic faith. He was also a member of the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge, # 796, where he was Senior Warden and 32nd Degree Mason. He was also involved with the St. Joseph's Council of K of C as a 4th Degree Knight and was past Grand Knight. Ken was also a member of the Dolgeville Lions Club, Benevolent Firemen's Association and the Dolgeville Community Band. Ken was an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed collecting coins & sports cards. In his leisure he enjoyed reading and gardening. Survivors include his loving wife of 13 years, Linda, 2 daughters; Erika Wood and husband Lon of Brockport, & Deborah Congdon and husband Brian of Rochester, his step-children; Scott Bauer and wife Margaret of Green Island, NY & Tricia Sticco and husband Gene of Houston, Texas, 2 brother; Alfred L. Nielsen and wife Susan of Syracuse, & Dale E. Nielsen and wife Karen of Cortland, a sister; Joyce Davis and husband Edward of Limestone, NY, his grandchildren; Megan & Joshua Wood, Abigail & Leah Congdon, Calvin Bauer, Aidin Bharti, & John, Michael, & Victoria Sticco, and several nieces. Funeral services will be held on Friday March 18, 2005 at 11:00 am from St. Joseph's Church in Dolgeville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Leo Potvin, pastor. Interment will be later in the spring at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dolgeville. Friends and relatives may call at the Roberts & Enea Family Funeral Home, 3 Faville Ave., Dolgeville, NY of Thursday March 17, 2005 from 5-8 pm. Member of the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge are asked to meet at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 6:00 pm for services. All memorial contributions may be made to Masonic Scholarship Fund or The Dolgeville Public Library. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
