Obituary of Ernest Petkovsek

Mr. Ernest L. Petkovsek, 81 of Little Falls, entered into eternal rest at his home 236 Burwell St., on Thursday June 23, 2005 with the love and support of his family at his side. Ernie was born in Little Falls on January 7, 1924 the son of Angela Grasich and Frank Petkovsek. He was educated at St. Mary's Academy in Little Falls and went on to serve in the US Army, enlisting on March 2, 1943. He served our country during World War II and participated in the Asiatic and Pacific Theaters of Operation. While serving our country, he worked as a surgical technician. He received the American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. Ernie was honorably discharged as a PFC on March 12, 1946. On June 26, 1948 Ernie was united in Holy Matrimony with the former Mary Kearns in St. Mary's Church, Little Falls. Mr. & Mrs. Petkovsek celebrated a blessed union of 57 years. Ernie was a devout Catholic and member of the Holy Family Parish in Little Falls. With family and his religion as his foremost priorities, Ernie proved himself a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Ernie was a hard working man and proprietor of the Ann Street Market in Little Falls for 42 years. His many customers will remember his sandwich making during lunch time for many local business employees. His daily free delivery service often meant changing light bulbs, opening medicine bottles, winding alarm clocks and even putting the groceries away for those who needed such services. Ernie always did these tasks willingly and enjoyed helping others. Ernie is survived by his loving wife Mary, and his beloved children Doreen Rohacek and husband Gary of Little Falls; John Petkovsek of Garland Texas; Mary Angela Rybak and husband Robert of Clifton Park, NY; Anne and husband Michael Seymour of Ilion; Monica Wainwright and husband William of Little Falls; and James Petkovsek and wife Mary of Garland, Texas. He was devoted to his children and proud of their many achievements. He derived special joy form his cherished grandchildren; Eric Rohacek of Little Falls; Karen Petkovsek of Garland, Texas; Kristy Ward and husband Barry of Richardson, Texas; Jennifer and Christopher Rybak of Clifton Park; Chad Parkhurst of Ilion; Mary Rose, William and Alicia Wainwright of Little Falls; Lauren and Sarah Petkovsek of Garland, Texas, and a great grandson, Jackson Ward and a great granddaughter, Torrie Ward of Richardson, Texas. Also surviving are a brother-in-law, Cletus Kearns of Little Falls and several nieces & nephews. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Bertha Dye and two grandchildren Mark Petkovsek and Benjamin Wainwright. Funeral services for Mr. Petkovsek will be held on Tuesday June 28, 2005 at 10:15 am from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, NY and at 11:00 am from the Holy Family Parish where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Anthony Ligato, Pastor. Interment will follow with full military honors in St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Herkimer, NY. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Monday June 27, 2005 from 5-8 pm. All memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Family Parish Restoration Fund; Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. or At Home Care Inc. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family extends its appreciation to Dr. Curtis Mills, Bassett Health Clinic, Herkimer, NY for his kindness and expertise and to the At Home Care, Inc., Herkimer County Office of the Aging and the Hospice staff for all the tireless care given to Ernie and his family.
