Obituary of Rose Pezdek
Rose M. (Marosek) Pezdek, 80, a longtime resident of 119 E. North St., Ilion, passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, from complications following surgery, with her loved ones by her side. "Rose fought the good fight, she lived the good life and she loved her family." Rose was born Feb. 24, 1925, in Little Falls, daughter of John and Rose (Schlumberger) Marosek. She attended St. Mary's Academy in Little Falls. On June 1, 1946, she was united in marriage to Mitchell "Mitch" Pezdek Sr. at St. Mary's Church, Little Falls, a blessed and devoted union of 50 years until Mitch's passing on April 10, 1997. Rose was last employed as a technician at Empire Circuits in Utica until she retired in 1990. Prior to that she worked at MDS in Herkimer, Univac and in her early years as a sewing machine operator in Little Falls. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort, and also attended Mass at the Church of the Annunciation with her family. Rose was a member of the Ilion Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and was an active volunteer on the K of C Bingo Committee. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and being a homemaker. Rose cherished her family and loved to follow her grandchildren's school and sporting events. She loved to host the annual family Thanksgiving dinner and had many years of enjoyment with her husband, Mitch, at the Ilion Knights of Columbus New Year's parties. Rose treasured her friendships with her dear friends in "Chet's Coffee Club." Rose is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell Jr. and Terri Pezdek of Ilion; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Terry Tinkle of Clifton Park, Jane and Joseph Paratore of St. Johnsville; eight cherished grandchildren, John and Leanne Pezdek, Chris Tinkle, Joseph, Lisa, Michelle, Brian and Deborah Paratore, five great-grandchildren, Antonio Soos, Jillian, Alyssa and Jarad Paratore and Ryleigh Noel Pezdek; her twin sister, Regina Kuzmak of Little Falls; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rudy and Jean Pezdek, Jeanette Pezdek of Ilion and Helen and Ray Anthaume of Ilion, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, including Don Peterson, Rhonda LaPorta, Alice Crossway, Ted Fournier and the late Chet Gregg. She was predeceased by her husband, Mitch, her son, Steve Pezdek in 1979, three brothers, Walter, Edwin and John Marosek, and her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joe and Clara Pezdek and Jane (Pezdek) Pawloski. Family and friends are invited to visitation on Sunday, Nov. 6, from 2-5 p.m. at the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion. Rose's funeral service will be held on Monday, Nov. 7, commencing at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, where Father Anthony Barratt, pastor, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Procession to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, for interment will follow Mass. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials in Rose's name to the American Lung Association. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
