Obituary of Elemona Rice

Mrs. Elemona M. Rice, age 76, a longtime resident of Mohawk, passed away peacefully at St. Elizabeth Medical Center on Monday August 15th, 2005. She was born on July 2, 1929, a daughter of the late Everett and Gladys (Tooker) Thompson. She was educated in Madison schools. On November 4, 1953 Elemona was united in marriage to Karl C. Rice in Pennsylvania. They shared a blessed union of 43 years until his passing on December 18, 1996. Mrs. Rice was last employed at Duofold of Mohawk. She at one time was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Mohawk. She was devoted to her family and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her loving family; including children: Charles Carey and wife Jackie of West Winfield; K. Michael Rice and wife Marcia of Mohawk; Ronald Rice and wife Bonnie of Mohawk; Lorri Vedder and husband Keith of Mohawk; Douglas Rice, Sr. and wife Debbie of Ilion; Dana Rice and wife Tami of Ilion; and Kenneth Rice and wife Kolleen of Ilion; her grandchildren: Alissa Brown and husband Aaron; Tammy Hendrick and husband Hans; Charles David Carey; James Rice, Christopher Rice, Sara Rice, Ronald Palmiter; Jessica Palmiter; Joseph Palmiter; Samantha Rice; Tyler Rice, Jennifer Hines & husband Lance; Keith Vedder, Jr., Brandy Edmunds & husband Matt; Douglas Rice, Jr. & fiancee Lori Brower; Jessica Rice, Christina Williams & husband Jeff; William Bellstedt; Karl M. Rice, and Rachel Rice; great grandchildren: Alexandria Hines, Jesse Hendrick, Bret Hines, Tristyn Brown, Nathan Case, Jayden Edmunds, Rylee Edmunds, Gabin Rice, Jordyn Rice, and Syd Williams, her brothers: Gardner Thompson of Forestville; and Everett Thompson, Jr., and wife Roxanne of South Carolina; a sister: Alice Valentine of Forestville; her in laws: Janet Buchanan and husband Ralph of Oriskany Falls; and Betty Rice of Hamilton; and a special cousin Bill Furness & wife Myert of Sangerfield, along with many nieces nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her sisters Monica Sutherland, and Noreen Peckham, and a special sister in law: Shirley Thompson. Funeral services will be held on Sunday August 21, 2005 at 4:00 PM from the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main Street between Ilion & Frankfort with the Rev. Thomas Trees officiating. Procession will follow to Dennison Corners Cemetery where her cremated remains will be interred with her husband Karl. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the funeral home prior to the services on Sunday afternoon from 1 until 4 o'clock PM. Those wishing are asked to consider doantions in memory of Mrs. Rice to either the Ronald McDonald House, South Lake Street, Albany, or to the Make A Wish Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the Enea Family Funeral Home (894-8000).
