Obituary of Harlin Smith

Harlin A. Smith, 80 a long time St. Johnsville resident, passed away on Friday January 7, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, NY. He was born January 9, 1924 in St. Johnsville the son of the late Albert and Bertha (Walrath) Smith and was educated in St. Johnsville schools. He was first married to Joan Bishop on March 23, 1944 in Fremamtle, Australia. He was later married to Mildred E. Walrath who preceded him in death on December 17, 1997. Mr. Smith was a World War II Navy veteran being honorably discharged in 1945. Harlin was last employed at Helmont Mills in St. Johnsville. He was a 55-year member of the St. Johnsville American Legion Post # 168 and was of the Methodist faith. Harlin was an avid outsdoorsman and spent many summers on his boat with his family and friends at Pisceco Lake. Survivors include a son David Smith of Australia & a daughter Shirli Smith Lewis of Australia several grandchildren and great grandchildren. In keeping with Harlin's wishes graveside services will be held in the spring at West St. Johnsville Cemetery with full military honors. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Smith - Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY. Harlin's family would like to extend a special thank you to Marguerite Finch and to the many neighbors for all the help shown to him throughout the years.
