Susan A. Smith, 74 a long time Oppenheim resident, passed away on Sunday November 20, 2005 at the Wells Nursing Home, Johnstown, NY. She was born February 4, 1931 in Ames, NY the daughter of the late Edward & Harriet (Atkins) Null and was educated in Ames Local schools. Her marriage to Ralph Smith, Sr., took place on May 28, 1949. Mr. Smith passed away on March 29, 1983. Susan was last employed at LaSalle Labs in Little Falls. At one time she worked at the former Luxuary in Fort Plain and the Iroquois Travel Plaza on the New York State Thruway. Mrs. Smith was a former member of the Fordsbush Bible Church. With family as her fore most priority, Susan proved her self a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In her leisure she was an avid outdoorsperson who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include her companion of 23 years, Francis O. Guile, Jr. of Gloversville, her sons, Ralph Smith, Jr. of Herkimer, James F. Smith and his wife Jean of Oppenheim, Wayne A. Smith and his wife Linda of Canajoharie, Timothy P. Smith and his wife Deborah of St. Johnsville, and Jeffrey P. Smith of Mohawk, her daughters, Carol Smith of Herkimer, and Joanne Hogan and her husband Gary of St. Johnsville, 2 brothers, Harold Null and his wife Nancy of Fort Plain and Albert Null of St. Johnsville, 4 sisters, Alice Iacobucci and her husband Cype of Canajoharie, Ruth Youker of Palatine Bridge, Thelma Fredericks of Palatine Bridge, and Bertha Rappa of Randall, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins. She was pre-deceased by a son Michael P. Smith and a brother Edward Null. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 23, 2005 at 1:00 pm from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY. Burial will be in Ephratah Rural Cemetery.
