Obituary of Catherine Smith

Catherine F. (Wilcox) Smith, 75, of Prindle Apartments, Ilion, passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, following a long illness, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare with her family by her side. Catherine was born July 7, 1930, in East Frankfort, daughter of the late Walter H. and Frances E. (Loftus) Lyon. She attended local schools, graduating from Ilion High School and later SUNY Cobleskill ('77) and Oklahoma State Tech ('79). Catherine was married to Norman F. Wilcox in Herkimer in 1948; she later married Max H. Smith in 1981 in California and more recently was companion to Jessie J. Lott and Robert P. Hurteau. She was employed by various businesses in the Mohawk Valley, Oklahoma and California before retiring. Catherine was active in many organizations over the years, most recently the John Guy Prindle Association, and enjoyed attending the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home Adult Day Care Program. Catherine was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to many. Survivors include two sons, William G. "Bill" Wilcox and his wife Katherine of Ilion and Walter Wilcox and his wife Sharon of Oregon; one daughter, Deborah Bradley of Ilion; 12 cherished grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and many close friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by her husbands, Max and Norman, son, Michael C. Wilcox Sr. and companions Jessie and Robert. Catherine's funeral service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Father Thomas Trees, rector of St. Augustine's Church, officiating. Family and friends are invited to visitation on Tuesday from noon-2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to her funeral service. Interment will take place in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion.
