Obituary of Robert Taylor
Robert K. Taylor, 58 of 329 Shoemaker Road, Mohawk, went Home to be with the Lord on Monday March 7, 2005 at St. Luke?s Hospital in New Hartford after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 21, 1946 in Rutland, Vermont, the son of the late Robert & Evelyn (Bennett) Taylor. He was a graduate of Leonardsville High School, class of 1964. On September 20, 1990, he married his ?best friend? Carol (Culver) Pohleven in the Mohawk Methodist Church. Robert enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Crowley - Barnum Post # 25, American Legion, Mohawk, NY. He was employed at Remington Arms Co., in Ilion for 35 years, retiring in 2002. Robert enjoyed driving his 1972 Pontiac Grand Prix, and vacationing with his wife and family. His family and friends were very important to him. Robert was truly a hero to many people - spiritually, physically and emotionally. Throughout his battle, he kept his faith in God which inspired all those around him. Robert was a member of the New Life Church & Ministry Center in Herkimer, NY. Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife Carol, two daughters: Michelle Murray and husband Johnny of Bronx, NY & Dawn Taylor of Leonardsville, NY. A son, Robert Taylor and wife Stacey of Thornhurst, Pa, a stepdaughter, Melissa Pohleven and a stepson Kevin Pohleven and wife Renay, ten grandchildren: Janelle, Julia & Joshua Murray, Megan & Bryce Taylor, Amanda Pohleven, Xavier Williams, Zachary, Kaleb & Jenna Pohleven; one sister, Sharon Youker and husband Allen of Dolgeville; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles & cousins. Also surviving are his in-laws: Gert & Albert Henrickson of West Chester, Pa., William and Dolores Culver of Chambersburg, Pa., and Robert and Ellen Culver of Frankfort, NY. He also leaves behind his special cocker spaniel ?Penny?. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Richard C. Taylor. Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 12, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at New Life Church, 337 Protection Ave., Herkimer, with Pastor Joseph Jansen officiating. Interment will follow at Mohawk Cemetery. Calling hours for friends and relatives will be at the Enea Family Funeral Home, (Main St., between Ilion & Frankfort) on Friday March 11, 2005 from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider The Oley Foundation, 214 Hun Memorial, MC - 28, Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY 12208-3478 or the New Life Church, 337 Protection Ave., Herkimer, NY 13350. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Members of the Crowley - Barnum Post # 25 are asked to meet at the funeral home on Friday evening at 6:00 pm for services. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Lynn Howard (Albany Med), Dr. William Parker and his medical staff, Dr. Patrick Dwyer (Bassett Healthcare), Tracy Ivory, RN, St. Luke?s Sixth floor nursing staff for their compassion, Pastor Joe Jansen, Tom Pileggi and Ellen Culver for helping us through a very difficult time.
