Obituary of Roland Terricola

Roland A. Terricola 75, of 636 Scarlet Dr. Ilion, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center surrounded by his loving family after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born October 19, 1929 in St. Johnsville the son of the late Guiseppe and Ausilia (Palladine) Terricola. Roland was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School, class of 1948 and also graduated with an A.A.S degree in Electronics while serving his country. Mr. Terricola was a 20-year Marine Corps. Veteran, enlisting on July 27, 1948 and was honorably discharged on July 31, 1968 with the rank of Master Sergeant. While serving his country he participated in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, and received the following awards; Good Conduct Medal with five stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device 1960, and the Vietnam Service Medal with two stars. Roland was very proud that he served with the best of our services. On October 1, 2004 he was united in marriage to June Daniels at their home in Ilion. Roland was last employed at the former Griffis Air Force Base in Rome, NY where he was a Radar Technician Supervisor. At one time he owned and operated the Riverside Motel in Fultonville, NY. Mr. Terricola was of the Catholic faith. He was a lifetime member of the Marine Corps. League, a member of the RV club, a former member of the Ilion Moose Lodge, and a former member of the Mohawk American Legion. With family as his foremost priority, Roland proved himself as a caring and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Roland was an active outdoorsman, who enjoyed traveling and was an avid golfer. Survivors include his wife June of Ilion, his two beloved daughters, JoAnne Hernigle and husband William of Palatine Bridge, and Paula Lonis of Ilion, and their mother Livia Terricola of Frankfort, a brother Carl Terricola and wife Darlene of St. Johnsville, a sister, Vincenza Terricola of Ilion, a brother-in-law, Walter Raffle of Frankfort, 5 grandchildren, Stefanie Ackerknecht and husband Eric, Lacy Auld and husband Donavin, Ryan Hernigle, Matthew Hernigle, and Joseph Rigo, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a sister Nancy Raffle who passed away on February 18, 2004. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2005, at 9:00 am from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY and at 9:30 am from St. Patrick's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Monday August 22, 2005 from 5-8 pm. All memorial contributions may be made to Faxton Cancer Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Drs. Desai and Soults, and the staff of Faxton - St. Luke's Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital and Faxton Cancer Center for the care shown to Roland during his illness.
