Obituary of Joseph Tinka

Joseph J. Tinka, 78 a long time Fort Plain resident, passed away on Sunday September 11, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, NY. He was born February 19, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late John Tinka, Sr., and Sue (Kertis) Tinka, and was a graduate of Bronx Vocational High School, class of 1948. Mr. Tinka was a World War II Navy veteran, enlisting on March 15, 1944 was honorably discharged on May 3, 1946 with the rank of Seaman First Class. While serving his country Joe was one of the 12 L.S.T. that served in the Alantic & Pacific Theaters. For 21 years, Joe worked for Beech-Nut in Canajoharie, and was also a farmer for many years. Joe was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Fort Plain, and a member of the Fort Plain Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree, and a life member of the Little Falls American Legion Post #31. Joe was a loving and caring brother, always looking out for the welfare of is brothers. An avid outdoorsman Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include 2 brothers; Paul J. Tinka of Fort Plain, & John Tinka, Jr., of Fort Plain, and his friends, Bud & Wendy Hazzard and their family. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 14, 2005 at 10:00 am from St. James' Catholic Church in Fort Plain, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Kenneth Swain, pastor. Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY on Tuesday September 13, 2005 from 5-8 pm. All memorial contributions may be made to Mid-County Ambulance Corps. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
