Obituary of Bertha Tubia
Bertha M. Tubia, 85, a longtime resident of 10 Grant St., Ilion, passed into the loving arms of the Lord Friday, April 22, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loved ones by her side. Bertha was born Nov. 10, 1919, in Westport, Mass., daughter of the late George and Couranna (St. Saviour) Bastille. She was first married to George Collette and later was united in marriage to James P. Tubia. Mr. Tubia passed away Oct. 17, 1992. Bertha was a dedicated family care provider in her home for over 40 years, allowing those less fortunate a safe and comfortable place to live. Her charges became family to her, and at one time she was recognized as the "Family Care Provider of the Year." She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, Ladies League of the Salvation Army in Herkimer where she enjoyed cooking for the dinners and special events. At one time she was active in the Annunciation School PTO. Bertha was like a grandmother to all including her "grandson," Don Applegate, and was known to never turn away someone in need. Survivors include her loving children, Deloris Collette of Herkimer, Barbara Bouck of Arizona, Pauline Cummings of Ilion, Nancy DeRusso of Ilion, Patricia "Pat" Allen and her husband John of Ilion, and Daureen Gifford and her husband Wayne of West Winfield, Ronald Collette of Mexico, Frederick Collette of Mexico, James D. "Jim" Tubia and his wife Mary of Ilion, Dennis Tubia of Ilion, and Robert "Rob" Tubia and his son Luke of Ilion; her daughters-in-law Vicki Barnett and Eugenia Collette; her sons-in-law Don Judson and Charles "Chick" Scataro; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law which includes Mary Kinney of Ilion, Marion and Joe Rosemeyer of Frankfort, Nina and Eric Garcia of Frankfort, Carrie Spytko of Richfield Springs, Tony and Shirley Tubia of Herkimer, Paul Tubia of Frankfort, and John and Millie Tubia of Herkimer; many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, including her special nieces Bernie Bernier, Pauline Daly and Bunny Gasperini, and her many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Jim, daughter Theresa Larrabee, several grandchildren, including Richard Ford and Robinlee Davis, and her four brothers and three sisters, her sons-in-law Will Larrabee, Roger Ford. Bertha's survivors are numerous. If you are not listed here, please know that Gram had you on her list. Bertha's funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 26, commencing at 9:30 a.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, and 11 a.m. at the church of the Annunciation where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Alfred Lamanna and Deacon Jim Bower. Procession to St. Agnes Cemetery for interment will follow mass. Family and friends are invited to visitation Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, Ilion. In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorials in Bertha's name to the Herkimer Salvation Army. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
