Obituary of Robert Slyke

Mr. Robert L. ?Bob? Van Slyke, 81 a long time Fort Plain resident, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2005 in Little Falls Hospital. Robert was born on July 12, 1923 in St. Johnsville and was the son of the late Lester and Anna Mae (Swartz) Van Slyke, and was educated in St. Johnsville schools. Mr. VanSlyke?s marriage to Ruth Sanders took place on February 15, 1947 in Fort Plain. Bob was a World War II Army veteran enlisting on January 30, 1943 and was honorably discharged on December 9, 1945 with the rank as Private First Class. Bob was last employed at Otsquago Construction in Fort Plain and at one time worked at the former Palatine Dye Co. where he held the position of Supervisor. Mr. Van Slyke was of the Lutheran Faith and a 50year member of the St. Johnsville Masons. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ruth of Fort Plain, a son, Richard Van Slyke of Fort Plain, 3 grandchildren, Robert A. Van Slyke and wife Bernadette of Fort Plain, Peter Salamone of Dallas, Texas, & Patricia Mormile and husband Tim of Dallas, Texas, 4 great grandchildren, Timothy & Erika Cheney & Nicholas & Mathew Mormile, & several nieces & nephews. He was pre-deceased by 2 brothers; William & Alvin Van Slyke & a sister; Doris Countryman. In keeping with Robert?s wishes graveside services will be held later in the spring at West St. Johnsville Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY.
