Obituary of George VanNort
Mr. George C. "Calvin" VanNort, of Rt. 5, Frankfort, (Town of Schuyler) passed away at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica. At the time of his passing he was in the presence of his loved ones. He was born on February 22, 1927 in Miami, FL a son of the late Leslie and Florence (Logie) VanNort and was educated in Frankfort schools. He was a lifelong Frankfort resident. On October 18, 1958 Calvin was united in marriage with the former Catherine Emrich in the United Methodist Church, Ilion. A veteran of the United States Navy he was honorably discharged on March 6, 1956. His last professional employment was with Remington Arms, Ilion as a machine operator, retiring in 1991 after several years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Mohawk Crowley Barnum American Legion Post #25. A man with a wonderful personality he was a true people person. He could strike up a conversation with anyone. In his spare time he enjoyed playing cards and enjoyed bowling. Most importantly, he treasured the moments spent at family gatherings and the time spent in camaraderie of his friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine of Frankfort, three children, Keith VanNort and wife Anna of Ilion, Leslie VanNort of Ilion and Debbie VanNort also of Ilion, a twin brother, Lloyd VanNort and wife Pauline of Kirkville, a sister Jane Johnson and husband Locklin of Herkimer, two grandchildren, David and Beth VanNort of Ilion, three great grandchildren, Cody VanNort, Ahrielle and Ariana Ellis, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving are several inlaws and many good friends including, Sandy and Deanna Bono, Calvin and Michelle Hight and John Kaladjian. He was predeceased by two sisters, Kathleen Bulkley and Florence Staffo and his infant son Kevin Charles VanNort. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main St. between Frankfort and Ilion, on Sunday, February 13, 2005 from 4-7p.m. Calvin's funeral will commence at 10am from the chapel of the funeral home on Monday morning, Feb. 14, with the Rev. Robert Lindsay, pastor of the West Schuyler Methodist Church, officiating. He will be laid to rest next spring in Oak View Cemetery, Frankfort. Members of the Crowley Barnum American Legion Post #25 will gather at the funeral parlor at 6 p.m. on Sunday to conduct their service. For your convenience donations may be made at the funeral home and envelopes are available as well. The family would like to thank the special care unit nursing staff at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center along with Dr. El-Khoury for their professionalism shown.
