Evelyn L. Whiteford, age 83 formerly of 17 Harrison Ave., Ilion, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer. Evelyn was born March 17, 1921 in Herman, NY, daughter of Clinton C. and Lida (Anderson) Burch. She was a graduate of DeKalb Junction High School. On July 17, 1941 she was united in marriage to Malcom L. Whiteford in Heuvelton, NY, a blessed union of 46 years, until Mr. Whiteford's passing on December 12, 1987. In her early years she worked at GE in Utica, she also worked as a nurse's aide at Mohawk Valley Nursing Home for ten years, retiring in 1983. Evelyn was an active member of the Ilion First Presbyterian Church, and the church ladies groups. At one time she bowled with the Elks Ladies League, enjoyed ceramics and gardening. Evelyn was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gary Whiteford and his finance, Debra Zatwarnicki of Ilion, Stephen and Susan Whiteford of Tallahassie, FL, Dennis and Marion Whiteford of Bennington, VT; her grandchildren, Ryan, Megan, Sean, Amy, and Collin Whiteford; one sister, Geraldine Burnside of Venice, FL; two sisters-in-law, Lura McElhearn of DeKalb Junction, NY and Anna Whiteford of Saugerties, NY. She was predeceased by her sister, Marie Nelson; and brother, Ceylon Burch. Evelyn's funeral service will be held Saturday, January 15, 2005, commencing at 4 p.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Rev. Victor McKusick Pastor of the Ilion First Presbyterian Church officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
