Obituary of Albert Wollaber

Albert R. "Al" Wollaber, age 85, formerly of Elizabethtown Road, Ilion, and at one time of Springfield, VT, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2005 at the Folt's Homes, Herkimer. Al was born November 14, 1919 in Mohawk, son of Glenn A. and Hattie (Rathbun) Wollaber. He attended Mohawk schools. On May 29, 1941, he was united in marriage to Dorothy C. Comstock in Mohawk, a blessed and devoted union of almost 64 years. Al was employed by St. Johnsbury Trucking of Bellow's Falls, VT, as a supervisor in the mechanical department, retiring in 1988 with 46 years of dedicated service. At one time, he worked for M&M Trucking. He was a member of the Mohawk Reformed Church. Al enjoyed woodworking and was known as handyman that could "fix the unfixable". Survivors include his beloved wife, Dorothy, of Claxton Manor; one daughter, Sharon Gilday and her friend Raulin Amy, both of Fort Plain, NY; one son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Coleen Wollaber of Ilion; two grandchildren, Wade and Hallie Wollaber; his sister-in-law, Irene Schrell of FL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Al also leaves his faithful canine companion, "Bucky". He was predeceased by one sister, Ellen Staudinger; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Helen and Charles Comstock. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2005 commencing at 2 p.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Rev. James Foster, Interim Pastor at the Herkimer Reformed Church, officiating. There are no public calling hours. Those wishing to do so may consider memorial contributions in Al's name to the Mohawk Reformed Church. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
