Milford Woodrick

Obituary of Milford Woodrick

Mr. Milford G. Woodrick, age 91, a longtime Herkimer resident and a former Middleville resident, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday afternoon, November 22, 2005 in Little Falls Hospital. He was born on December 24, 1913 in Herkimer, a son of the late George and Jennie (Abeline) Woodrick and attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic School. On June 10, 1944 he was joined in Holy Matrimony with the former Emma Schrader in St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, a blessed union of thirty years until her passing on November 16, 1975. In his professional life he was employed by UNIVAC as a stock clerk retiring in 1975 after many years of dedicated and loyal service. Milford was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church and was inspired by his sincere concern and great faith in his religion. He was very active in church activities and enjoyed assisting at bingo nights. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and was a proud 3rd Degree and Honorable 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus of Herkimer. Milford was honored with the Senior Citizen of the Year Award in 1993. From his earliest years, Milford can be best remembered as an extraordinary piano and organ player. He spent many hours playing the organ at St. Francis de Sales Church and also played for over 20 years at St. Mary's Church in Middleville. Even though his organ playing skills were superb, his piano playing talent is most remembered by many as he was always eager and willing to share his music and performances for all. From playing for his family and friends to entertaining local nursing home residents his love for the piano never ended. Many may recall Milford along with Henry Loopman and Don Reardon also known as the "music doctors" sharing their talents for many Mohawk Valley residents. Due to health reasons, Milford was forced to step down from his piano playing roles but always managed to "tickle the ivories" at home for enjoyment. When speaking of Milford, words such as "fun," "passionate for music," "joy," and perhaps more than any other, "inspiring" can be used to describe him. He truly glowed in the presence of family and friends and will be dearly missed. Survivors include four beloved children: Lois Stone and husband Dave of Ilion, Mary King and husband Peter of Queensbury, NY, Patricia Gizowski and husband Joseph of Herkimer and Jim "Woody" Woodrick and wife Carol of Herkimer; three sisters in law: Mary Woodrick, Mary George and Wanda Woodrick; his cherished grandchildren: David and Julie Stone, Jeff and Sarah Stone, Jessica and Rob Giachetti, Jeffrey Gizowski, Peter and Sara King, Sabrina and Sherri King, Karly, Kelsey, Kaylyn and Kathryn Woodrick, five great grandchildren: Benjamin, Camryn, Nolan and Evan Stone and Madison King; many nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends including Henry Loopman and Father Peter Nabozny. He was predeceased by two brothers: Fred and Charles Woodrick and by two special friends: Nellie Looman and Don Reardon. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, on Friday, November 25, 2005 from 4-8 p.m. Milford's funeral will commence on Saturday morning, Nov. 26 at 10:15 AM from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered.
