Obituary of Domaine Arca

Domaine A. Arca, 97, formerly of 233 Esther St. and 112 Diemel St., Herkimer, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer. She was born June 14, 1906, in Anela, providence of Sassaria, Sardinia, Italy, the daughter of the late Sebastian and Filomena (Sanna) Paoni. Domaine was educated in Herkimer schools and lived most of her life in the Herkimer area. Her marriage to Emanuel G. Arca took place on Jan. 4, 1924, at St. Anthony's Church in Herkimer by the Rev. William V. Donnelly. Mr. Arca passed away on May 13, 1970. Mrs. Arca was last employed at the former Derby Sportswear in Herkimer. During World War II she worked at the Remington Arms. Domaine was a member of the Church of Saints Anthony and Joseph and was a member of St. Francis Rosary Society. She was also active in the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, American Leukemia Association and WPA. She is survived by a son, Paul Arca and wife Lorraina of Baltimore, Md.; three daughters, Fran Knop and husband Paul of St. Johnsville, Lena Ramsey of Herkimer and Mary Dunn and husband Bernard of Herkimer; a sister, Jessie Fuller of Utica; 23 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins, and a sister-in-law, Helen Arca of Felts Mills. She was predeceased by a son, John Arca on Feb. 9, 1994; a grandson, Daniel Dunn on Oct. 31, 1990; and a son-in-law, Merle Ramsey on Oct. 17, 1996. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, at 8:30 a.m. from the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer and at 9 a.m. from the Church of Saints Anthony and Joseph, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Robert S. Shinos. Spring interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 23, from 6-9 p.m. All memorial contributions may be made to the Daniel Dunn Scholarship Fund or to a charity of one's choice. The family of Domaine would like to thank the staff of Valley Health Services for the care and compassion shown to Domaine during her stay.
