Obituary of Mary Cristiano
Mrs. Mary (Harley) Cristiano, age 88, of 317 Mohawk St. Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Sunday September 26, 2004 at St. Lukes Memorial Hospital in New Hartford with her family by her side. She was born in Frankfort, NY on April 4, 1916, a daughter of the late Rachael (DePalma) & John Harley Ciallelo. She attended Frankfort Schools. On May 4, 1935 she married Francis Cristiano in St. Mary's Church in Frankfort and they made their home in Herkimer. She had been employed at W.T. Grants and was the office manager of the Ilion Western Union. She was a devoted wife and mother. Her grandchildren were the light and joy of her life. Her garden brought much joy and gratification. She was a great inspiration to her family despite her limited mobility in later years due to Multiple Sclerosis. Her wisdom and understanding of life were a source of strength to all that knew her. She had a heartfelt faith in the S.S. Maria Addolorata which was inspired by her Grandmother Gabriella DePalma. She is survived by her beloved family including two sons and daughters-in-law, Francis and Delores Cristiano of East Herkimer; Dr. Peter and Christine Cristiano of Lansing Kansas; and a daughter, Joyce Cristiano, of Herkimer. Five grandchildren; Kathy Cloutier, Marie Kast, John Cristiano, Elizabeth and Katie Cristiano. Four great grandchildren and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Francis Cristiano on December 15th 1989, a daughter Concetta; two brothers, Frank and Nick Ciallelo; and two sisters, Mary LaVallo and Rose Macri. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 29 2004 at (9:30am) from the Holleran-Enea funeral home, 220 North Washington St., Herkimer and at (10:00am) from the Church of Saints Anthony and Joseph, South Main St., Herkimer with the Rev. Anthony Ligato celebrating her mass of Christian burial. Internment will follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery in the town of Herkimer. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the Holleran-Enea funeral home on Tuesday evening (tonight) from 6:00-9:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name my be considered to a charity of choice. The family extends sincere thanks to Dr. Cheryl Mattern for her commitment and compassion as well as the numerous doctors and staff at St. Luke's Hospital for their support and excellent care throughout her illness.
