Obituary of Robert Feane

Mr. Robert P. Feane, age 79, of 5 Burch Street, Little Falls, passed away on Saturday morning, August 14, 2004 at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, New Hartford. He was born on July 1, 1925 in Little Falls, son of the late Edward & Anna (Donnelly) Feane and attended St. Mary's Academy in Little Falls. Bob enlisted with the United States Navy on Sept. 29, 1943, and had served our country during World War II. He had participated within the Asiatic and Pacific Theatres of Occupation. He was awarded an honorable discharge and upon relief from active duty was the recipient of 2 Purple Hearts. On April 12, 1947, Bob joined in marriage with Joanna "Jody" Brown at St. Mary's Parish Rectory in Little Falls with Fr. Heenan officiating. The couple had lived their lives together in Little Falls, and shared a mutual passion for one another as well as an abiding love of family. Bob was a hard working man who dedicated himself to caring for his family and his home. He was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He posessed a wonderful sense of humor and was admired for his easy going nature and gentle way. In his leisure time he enjoyed ballgames and cards. Bob was also extremely proud of his Irish Heritage, a legacy of pride that his family continues to carry today. He was last employed with Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation as a foreman with the Gas Department, retiring in August of 1985. He was a communicant of the Holy Family Parish in Little Falls, and was a member and Past Commander of the Little Falls American Legion Post #31. He was a member of the AARP, along with the Little Falls Staff Sergeant Steve Stefula VFW Post and served as that post trustee. He was a member of the DeCarlo Staffo Post #8 of Little Falls, and a life member of the DAV. He is survived by his devoted family; including his wife of 57 years Jody; his children including five sons: James Feane and his wife Winta of Catskill, NY; David Feane and wife Sandy of Weedsport, NY; Thomas Feane and wife Cynthia of Little Falls; Mark Feane and wife Donna of Little Falls; and Robert A. Feane of Virginia Beach, Virginia; three daughters: Gloria Richards and husband Howard of Little Falls; Kathleen Nathan and husband Steve of New Jersey; and Lynne Wiliczka and husband Peter of Herkimer; 23 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; his sister: Teresa Proskine and husband Gordon of Scotia; many nieces, nephews, and cousins and In Laws: Helen Feane of Las Vegas, Nevada; Lois Gilbert and husband Leonard of Mohawk; and Gwenn Gilbert abd husband Frank of Florida. He was predeceased by two brothers: Thomas and Edward Feane; and three sisters: Eleanor Entwistle, Annamae Decker, and Eileen Spine. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 17, 2004 at 10:15 AM from the Enea Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street, Little Falls, and at 11:00 AM from the Holy Famliy Parish Church, corner of East Main & John Sts. Little Falls, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Herkimer, where full military rites will be offered. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home on Monday evening (Tonight) from 5 - 8 PM. The Little Falls American Legion Post are asked to gather at 7:00 PM, the VFW Post at 7:30 PM and the DeCarlo Staffo Post Members may meet at 7:45 PM Monday evening at the funeral parlor for services. Donations in Bob's memory may be considered to Disabled American Veterans organization. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. The family extends a special thank you to the 6th Floor Nurses at St. Luke's Hospital, Dr. Eldredge and Cheryl, the Little Falls Hospital Dialysis Department, and all of the many friends and neighbors for the love and compassion offered.
