Obituary of Mary Goodman

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Goodman, 76, of 192 McGowan Road, Ilion (Town of Frankfort) passed away on Wednesday afternoon, February 4, 2004 at Folts Homes in Herkimer after a long illness. She was born on November 27, 1927 in Utica, daughter of the late Leo R. and Mary Elizabeth (Jorgenson) Bechard and received her education in Utica schools. She has also went on to attend the Utica Business School. Beth had been a lifelong resident of this area. She was united in marriage with Lewis P. Goodman on June 3, 1950 at Annunciation Church in Ilion. The couple had raised a wonderful family together and had lived their lives happily for nearly 54 years. At one time Mrs. Goodman had worked with Remington Rand in Ilion, and was last employed with Ilion Hospital in the business office, retiring in 1983. Beth had volunteered her time with Catholic Charities, and spent many pleasurable moments working with ceramics. She enjoyed flowers and also loved birds. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister grandmother, and friend, and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her beloved husband Lewis P. Goodman; her loving children: Douglas Goodman and Paula of Waterville; Karen Buck and Alan of Brockport; Dennis Goodman and Michelle of Gloversville; Rodney Goodman and Shelly of Colorado; and Susan Meres and Gair of Hamilton; her father in law; Lewis V. Goodman of Middleville; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; her sisters: Ann Davis of Westernville; and Julia Soules of Ilion; her brothers: Leo Robert Bechard and Pat of Ilion and John Bechard and Martha of Ilion; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Sunday February 8, 2004 at 4:00 PM from the Chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main Street Between Ilion & Frankfort; with the Rev. George B. Greene officiating. Music will be offered by Sharon Palmer, Pianist. Interment will take place at the convenience of the Family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home on Sunday, prior to the funeral service, from 1 - 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, it is the wish of the family that donations in honor of Beth be considered to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Central New York Chapter; 401 North Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13203-1770. Envelopes may be obtained from the Enea Family Funeral Home (894-8000). Heartfelt thanks is extended to the so many precious and dear family friends and relatives that offered unending support and understanding during this difficult time. Included in this note are the staff of the Folts Homes; especially mentioning head nurse Shelly and her staff for their patience and care.
