Mr. Frederick S. "Fred" Greyback, 82, of 28 Brookside Dr., Mohawk, beloved husband of the late June Greyback, passed away at his home on Monday, August 23, 2004. He was born in Ilion on June 24, 1922 a son of the late Frank and Catherine (Kuba) Greyback and was a graduate of Ilion High School. He finished schooling in Attica, NY. He has resided in Mohawk since 1962. On June 22, 1946, he was united in marriage with the former June Mabbett in Richfield Springs. Mrs. Greyback passed away in September of 1988. Fred served with the United States Army during World War II, enlisting on December 30, 1942 and received an honorable discharge on November 26, 1945. He was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. His last professional employment was with Remington Arms, Ilion where he was an engineering assistant, retiring after 37 years of loyal service. Fred was a member at large of the National VFW and the Ilion Fish and Game Club. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed visiting Donna and Tom and various other friends at Donna's Diner. The memory that was most vivid in Fred's mind was that of his late wife, June. His commitment to her was a source of inspiration to all who knew him. Throughout his wife's illness he never failed to extend every effort he could to keep her comfortable. Day by day, Fred deeply missed her and the love that she provided to him more and more. Survivors include many nieces and nephews, in laws, Joseph and Shirley Schwasnick of Mohawk and several dear neighbors and friends. He was predeceased by a sister Helen Stedman and by a brother Joseph Greyback. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a graveside service which will commence at 11 am on Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at Mohawk Cemetery.
