Obituary of Mae Hall

Mrs. Mae S. Hall 98 of 8 1/2 Cavalli Street Dolgeville died on Friday morning December 10, 2004 at Van Allen Nursing Home in Little Falls where she had been a resident since November 4th. She was born on January 30, 1906 in Middle Sprite, Town of Stratford, the daughter of Earl and Carrie (Austin) Service. The family moved to Dolgeville in 1912 where she attended Dolgeville schools graduating from Dolgeville High School as Valedictorian of the class of 1924. Mae continued her education by attending the McEvoy Training School for teachers in Cortland, and then to Oneonta Normal School, later known as Oneonta Teachers College. She also attended the School of Extension of both Syracuse University and the Albany State Teachers College. She began teaching in grades 1-8 in rural schools in the area and taught for 15 years. Mae was secretary for the W. Arnold Petrie Insurance Company and the Douglas M. Daley Agency for a total of 45 years retiring from there in 1985. Mae was a faithful member of the Dolgeville United Methodist Church, a former member of the board of Trustees and the Administration board of the church serving as secretary for many years. She was also a member of the board of directors of the Dolgeville Cemetery Association, serving as secretary and treasurer from 1940 to 1985. She personally enjoyed reading where she believed she could always learn something new. She is survived by several grand nieces, one especially, Mary Lou of Cave City, Kentucky; several grand nephews including Glenn A. Hester and his wife Louise of Geaslow Kentucky and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her only sister Mildred Neely on December 25, 1985. Funeral services will be held on Monday December 13, 2004 at 11 AM at the Dolgeville United Methodist Church on Helmer Avenue. Calling hours are on Sunday from 4-7 PM at the Roberts-Buck Funeral Home, 3 Faville Avenue, Dolgeville. Memorials may be made to the Dolgeville United Methodist Church in her memory.
