Obituary of Charles Hawalka

Mr. Charles B. Hawalka, 78, of Poland, passed away Wednesday morning, Nov. 24, 2004, in his home. He was born Dec. 9, 1925, in Wilkes Barre, Pa., the son of the late Michael and Anna (Selesniak) Hawalka and was educated in Pennsylvania schools. He attended monastery in Lyle, Ill., and went on to receive an associate's degree from Kingston College, Wilkes Barre, Pa. He was united in marriage on Sept. 5, 1953, to the former Mary Androlowicz, a blessed union of 51 years. The couple settled in Poland in 1998. Charles was a proud United States Veteran serving with the paratroopers during World War II. He was honorably discharged on May 7, 1946. His last professional employment was with the Elizabeth, N.J., Board of Education. He was a communicant of Holy Family Parish, Little Falls. Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Mary; two sons, Charles B. Hawalka Jr. of New Jersey and Michael Hawalka, also of New Jersey; two daughters, Sophia Jaynes of Virgina and MaryJean Smith of New Jersey; three sisters, Helen Dankow of Syracuse, Anna Riccetti of Pittston, Pa. and Julia Chorberka of Binghamton; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to his Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Parish, Little Falls, on Saturday, Nov. 27, at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In keeping with Mr. Hawalka's wishes, there are no public calling hours. The family will receive relatives and friends in the vestibule of the church following the Mass on Saturday morning. In lieu of floral offerings, kindly send memorial contributions to Hospice Care, Inc. 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford. Arrangements are by the Enea Funeral Home, Little Falls (823-2424).
