Mrs. Katherine F. Johnson, of 19 Wayne Street, Ilion, passed away on Wednesday March 17, 2004 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica. She was born in Herkimer, daughter of the late John and Sophia Firra. She was educated in Herkimer Schools and had been a lifelong resident of our area. Katherine joined in marriage with John N. Johnson on September 4, 1948 at St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer. The couple shared in a loving union of over 55 years together. Mrs. Johnson had worked with Chicago Pneumatic as a stock room clerk and was of Catholic faith. She was a member of the AARP and enjoyed sewing and crosswords, and especially liked to read mysteries. She had worked also as a substitute teacher at one time with Annunciation school in Ilion. She is survived by her beloved husband, John; one son and daughter in law: Arthur Johnson and his wife Lynn of Essex, Vermont; two sisters: Pearl Firra of Herkimer and Eva Firra of Ithaca; a sister in law: Judy Kobylenski of Calcoon, NY, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters: Mary and Anna and three brothers: George, Walter and Peter. Services will be held on Saturday March 20, 2004 at 11:30 AM at the Chapel of the Enea Funeral Home, Main Street between Ilion and Frankfort with the Rev. Mark Cunningham officiating. Spring interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. There are no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the American Diabetes Association.
