Obituary of Agnes Moore
Miss Agnes J. ?Nan? Moore 87, a former resident of St. Johnsville, NY and a resident at the Getman Memorial Home in Gloversville, NY passed away after a short illness on September 23, 2004. Miss Moore was born on October 31, 1916 in Amsterdam, NY the youngest daughter of William and Sarah Jane (McKnight) Moore. She was graduated from the Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1933 and received her BA degree from Hartwick College in 1937. Following graduation from college she was employed for seven years in the office of the Mohawk Carpet Mills. In 1944 she moved to St. Johnsville where she taught junior and then senior high English until retiring in 1973. During her teaching tenure Miss Moore served as advisor to numerous graduating senior classes. She continued to reside in St. Johnsville until her move to the Getman Home in 1999. During her 55-year residence in St. Johnsville she was an active member of the St. Johnsville Business Girls, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society that promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and a charter member of the Upper Montgomery County Retired Teachers? Association. ?Nan? was a member of Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, the Grace Church Women?s Fellowship of which she was treasurer for many years and for nearly thirty years performed the duties of Clerk of Grace Church. Survivors include two nephews and a niece, George M. Haney and his wife Claudia of Derwood, MD, William W. Haney and his wife Jane of East Greenbush, NY and Ellen Jane Whitehead and her husband Anthony of Doraville, GA; six grand nephews and nieces, Stephen Haney of Hunt Valley, MD, Stephanie Roberts of Harrisburg, NC, Sharon Hayward of Ft. Hood, TX, William M. Haney of Albany, NY, Kristine Hampson of Marietta, GA and Jeffrey Vosburgh of Atlanta, GA; nine great, great nephews and nieces, Jeremy, Nathan, Matthew, Kailee and Emilee Hayward, Jacob and Andrew Roberts, Casey Hampson and Forrester Vosburgh. Two sisters, Jessie and Alma, and a brother, George predeceased her. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2004 at Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, St. Johnsville. Contributions may be made in Agnes Moore?s memory to the Grace Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 20 Center Street, St. Johnsville, NY 13452, or the David and Helen Getman Memorial Home, 15 East State Street, Gloversville, NY 12078. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center Street, St. Johnsville. Interment will be private and take place at the convenience of the family.
