Obituary of Richard Morgan

Mr. Richard F. Morgan, age 81, of 314 Bellinger Ave., Herkimer, beloved husband of Betty Morgan, passed away on Thursday evening, October 28, 2004. His passing occurred in Valley Health Services, Herkimer. He was born on September 22, 1923 in Utica, the son of the late Richard J. and Ethel (Schell) Morgan. He attended schools in Utica, and was a Graduate with the Utica Free Academy. He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Partlon on February 19, 1949 in St. Francis de Sales Rectory in Herkimer. They enjoyed a loving union of 55 years. Richard was a proud veteran, having served our country during World War II with the United States Army. He was the recipient of the American Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 20, 1945, and upon relief from active duty held the rank of Sergeant. Richard was last employed with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. Prior to that he retired as Maintenance Repair Foreman with the Bendix Corporation in Utica. At one time he enjoyed actively participating in the Herkimer Fishing Derby and Youth Conservation Day. He was a lifetime member of Michael S. Pliseck VFW Post 4915 of Herkimer. He was also a member of the East Herkimer Fish and Game Club, Herkimer Conservation Council and past President of the Herkimer County Conservation Alliance. He was inducted into the NY Outdoorsman Hall of Fame. He actively enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing with friends. Survivors include his loving wife Betty; one daughter: Debora Marrone and her husband Thomas of Mohawk; one son: Dennis B. Morgan and Carol Bell of Frankfort; two grandchildren: Thomas Marrone and Kathryn Marrone both of Mohawk; a sister: Barbara Jean Hennings of Gray; two brothers: Robert Morgan and his wife Rita of Poland, and Herbert Morgan along with his wife Judy of Vero Beach, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister: Betty Gauthier, a brother: Donald Morgan, and a brother in law: Thomas G. Partlon of Long Island. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, on Saturday, October 30, from 4- 7 p.m. His funeral will commence at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon from the Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, officiating. In respecting Richard's wishes, cremation will take place after the funeral. Members of the Herkimer Michael S. Pliseck VFW Post will gather at the funeral home at Sunday 2pm to pay their respects. Donations in memory of Richard may be considered to Herkimer County Conservation of Alliance or to the Herkimer County Conservation Council.
