Obituary of John Nasypany
Mr. John Nasypany, a lifelong Herkimer resident, retired Herkimer Police Officer, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday afternoon, April 25, 2004 at the age of 82. He was born on June 17, 1921 in Herkimer, a son of the late Wasyl and Eva (Bundyk) Nasypany and was educated in the Herkimer Central School District. On June 19, 1946, he was joined in marriage with the former Patricia Fagan in St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. The couple would have celebrated 58 years of marriage this year. As a police officer, he faithfully served the residents of Herkimer for 33 years fulfilling this role with deep commitment and outstanding success. As a police officer he reached out to others in many ways, establishing friendships, to share and to help those in need, fulfilling the policeman's motto which is "to protect and serve." At his retirement party the Village of Herkimer along with Anthony Casale and Donald Mitchell proclaimed "John Nasypany Day." For many years he held the role of plumbing inspector for the village. He also was known throughout the valley for his contracting skills, putting these talents to work for many. A man of deep spiritual faith he was a lifelong member of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. During the summer months, he was a communicant of St. Bartholomew Church in Old Forge. It was at his camp in Old Forge where he spent many pleasurable moments enjoying family life and activities that involved being outdoors. Some of the family's fondest memories took place at the camp. Upon retirement, he considered his full time job to take care of his family. He found great pleasure, pride and satisfaction in dedicating himself to his children and in nurturing his grandchildren. His deep commitment to his family was part of the reason that he was the secure foundation and unshakable "rock" of the relationship that he shared with them, always providing a strong shoulder to lean on and a loving heart to rely on. Throughout the years he bused each and every one of his grandchildren to and from St. Francis de Sales School. He truly bestowed upon his family many meaningful memories that they will keep with them for years to come. He was a member of the Polish Home, Herkimer. He is survived by his wife, Pat of Herkimer, three children, J. Michael Nasypany and wife Kathleen of Herkimer, Adelaide L.
